WHAT TO EXPECT
This 6-day / 5-night tour starts in Alice Springs and explores all the Red Centre has to offer. Enjoy an action-packed trip with hikes through the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park and amazing sunrises and sunsets. You'll hike Watarrka (Kings Canyon) and spend time at Kings Creek Station, a working camel farm. You'll also see Coober Pedy, the world's opal capital where you'll sleep like the locals in an underground bunkhouse. Then, explore the southern Flinders Ranges before arriving at our final destination of Adelaide.
Itinerary (winter, April-October)
Day 1: Alice Springs - Uluru
Pickups from Alice Springs from 5.30am. Pick up from Uluru from 11.30 am.
From Alice Springs, journey across the rugged Outback to Uluru. Nothing will prepare you for the sight of The Rock - it’s awesome!
Learn about the region’s indigenous history at the Uluru Kata Tjuta Aboriginal Cultural Centre before taking an easy walk around the base of Uluru (2-3 hours, 10km) and learn more about Aboriginal interpretations from your Culturally Accredited Groovy Guide.
There’s no better way to finish the day than watching the amazing sunset over Uluru, before snuggling inside your swag under the star-studded desert sky.
Day 2: Kata Tjuta
After an early breakfast, head to Kata Tjuta for a sumptuous sunrise and visit the majestic Valley of the Winds. With its ancient rock formations and extraordinary views, this is a magical spot.
The hikes here can be challenging at times with steep sections and a duration of about 3 hours 30 minutes (approximately 7km), but the scenery is worth it!
After a good hike, relax back at the campground and take a dip in the swimming pool.
Day 3: Kings Canyon
Today, it's time to set out for Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon).
You’ll need to stop to admire and photograph the massive sandstone walls, vast canyon floor and breath-taking gorges. On the Canyon Rim Walk (3-4 hours, 6km) experience the beautiful Garden of Eden and learn more about local Aboriginal culture.
Day 4: Coober Pedy
Along the way to Coober Pedy, the Opal Capital of the World, you’ll notice the incredible change of scenery.
Once you arrive in the quaint town, you'll get the chance to visit the Opal Mine and Museum. Here you’ll learn the history of the town.
You'll also visit Josephine’s Kangaroo Orphanage, where you can meet the rescued kangaroos and baby joeys and admire (or buy) Aboriginal art and didgeridoos.
Later, you’ll get the chance to taste one of the most amazing pizzas in the outback before spending the night in a bunkhouse. Tonight you're sleeping the way the locals do - underground!
Day 5: Flinders Ranges - Pimba
After breakfast, journey south into the foothills of the magnificent Flinders Ranges. On the way, stop to view the salt lakes. You'll also stop en route for lunch before driving to Wilmington.
On the way, stop at Pimba and take a look at the salt lakes.
Your camp tonight is beautiful, surrounded by red gum trees and many stars.
Day 6: Alligator Gorge - Adelaide
Enjoy a morning walk through the stunning Alligator Gorge (2 hours, 8.9km), which is sometimes bursting with wildflowers and amazing wildlife.
You might get the chance to spot kangaroos or wallabies, so keep your eyes open!
Later, enjoy your last lunch with the group before heading to Adelaide. You'll arrive at approximately 6:30 pm.
Itinerary (summer, November - March)
If you are travelling between the months of November and March, the tour will operate on a revised itinerary for the summer season. This is to ensure compliance with Parks NT Heat Management Strategy at Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) and the company's heat management strategy. No activities will be missed.
Day 1: Alice Springs - Uluru

Day 2: Kata Tjuta - Kings Creek Station

After lunch, you'll drive to Kings Creek Station where you'll set up camp under the stars for the night.
Day 3: Kings Creek - Kulgera/Erldunda/Bush Camp
Today, set out early for Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon). Stop to admire and photograph the massive sandstone walls, vast canyon floor and breath-taking gorges.
Embark on the Canyon Rim Walk (3-4 hours, 6km) and experience the beautiful Garden of Eden and the Lost City. Learn more about local Aboriginal culture as you explore.
This afternoon, drive to a campsite at Kulgera or Erldunda or bush camp in swags!
Day 4: Campsite - Coober Pedy
This morning, hit the highway to Coober Pedy – the Opal Capital of the World. You’ll notice the incredible change of scenery as you approach this unique town.
Once you arrive, there’ll get the chance to visit the Opal Mine and Museum where you’ll learn the history of the town.
Another highlight is the visit to Josephine’s Kangaroo Orphanage, where you can meet the rescued kangaroos and baby joeys and admire (or buy) Aboriginal art and didgeridoos.
Later, you’ll get the chance to taste one of the most amazing pizzas in the outback before spending the night in a bunkhouse sleeping the way the locals do – underground!
Day 5: Coober Pedy - Flinders Ranges - Pimba - Wilmington
After breakfast, journey south into the foothills of the magnificent Flinders Ranges.
On the way, stop at Pimba and get a chance to view the salt lakes. You’ll stop en route for lunch and have a chance to stretch your legs!
Then, it's onto to Wilmington where you’ll sleep among the red gum trees.
Day 6: Wilmington - Alligator Gorge - Adelaide
Enjoy a morning walk through the stunning Alligator Gorge (2 hours, 8.9km), which is bursting with wildflowers and amazing wildlife. You might get the chance to spot kangaroos or wallabies!
Enjoy your last lunch together as a group then it's back on the road to Adelaide. You'll arrive at approximately 6.30 pm.
