WHAT TO EXPECT

Head to the Port Arthur Heli Base to depart on a 15-minute helicopter tour of Tasmania's intense landscapes. As you depart from the base, catch a glimpse of kunanyi/Mount Wellington and the towering Tasman sea cliffs to the south.

 

As you soar through the clouds, you'll learn about Tasmania's convict past through narration from your pilot. Ask about the mysterious isle off Port Arthur Historic Site and tales of escapees. From your seat in the sky, you'll understand why the peninsula was chosen for a penal colony and equally dreaded by those sent to this stunning patch.

 

En route to Cape Hauy, there’s a ribbon of white sand beaches — this is Fortescue Bay, about 10 km east of Port Arthur and makes up part of Tasman National Park. Many who finish the Three Capes Track wade into the clear waters of this beach. Hovering high over Cape Hauy, keep an eye out for the lanterns and the 110-meter tall candlestick — towering rock formations that are the highlight of your 15-minute helicopter tour. On your flight, you will be permitted to take only your camera (or phone). All other items and bags can be left in the office for collection at the end of your flight.

The helicopters have limited payload they can lift so for the safety of all guests and crew we need to know accurately what the total weight of our aircraft is. This also helps us in planning refuelling requirements for the helicopter. Individual guests in excess of 110kg will be required to pay for an additional seat as we will be required to restrict further seats on the aircraft.

The tour will keep you informed about the weather and give you options. If a decision is made in advance about the weather you will have the option of amending your tour to a date of your choosing or cancel with a full refund.

We always recommend you get the advice of your doctor if you are unsure of your individual circumstances. But generally speaking, if you comfortable flying with us, we are happy to fly you.

Just keep the following in mind:

  • The tour flies to around 3000 feet so there is a slight pressure change
  • Flights occasionally encounter small amounts of turbulence
  • All passengers must wear a lap seat belt
  • All passengers must also wear a lap fitting life jacket
  • Steps are involved in embarking and disembarking

If you have mobility issues, please just let us know when making a booking. There are steps involved in boarding but we’ll make sure extra staff are on hand to assist with the loading process.

Policies
Terms & Conditions:

  • Bookings minimum numbers of two (2) apply to all bookings. Bookings by single passengers will only be accepted on a standby basis.
  • All passengers will be weighed prior to flight. Guests are required to provide accurate individual body weights during the booking process. This is to ensure the safety of flight and helicopter load distribution. Any single passenger in excess of 110kg will incur a seat surcharge. Any two passengers travelling on the same booking in excess of 180kg will incur a seat surcharge. All flights have a maximum seat weight of 130kg. The tour reserves the right to refuse guests due to weight or other safety or operational concerns. Infants under the age of three (3) can sit on a parents lap, provided their combined weight does not exceed the maximum seat weight or overall weight of the aircraft. A child seatbelt will be provided.
  • Passenger safety is paramount at all times and guests are required to listen to the instruction of all pilots and ground personnel at all times. This includes obeying all written signage.
  • Passengers must not board or disembark aircraft unless instructed to do so by the crew.
  • Tampering with company property including emergency equipment, outside of the necessary situation, will result in reporting to appropriate authorities.
  • No bags, hats or other loose items are permitted onboard the aircraft. These can be left at the base for collection after the flight.
  • The tour reserves the right to refuse the carriage of any person under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. A refund is not offered under these circumstances.
  • The tour accepts no liability for damages incurred outside of our operations.
  • The tour strongly recommends all guests take out their own travel insurance to ensure coverage in the event of delays and cancellations.


Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations or changes made more than 24 hours prior to travel will not incur a cancellation fee (exception for Port Arthur Day Trip Product).
  • Cancellations notified within 24 hours or failure of passengers to arrive at the nominated departure point at the nominated time will incur a 100% cancellation fee.
  • Changes by the tour: a refund of the fare will be made available to customers in the event of a cancellation of the flight by Osborne Heli Tours due to adverse weather conditions or any other unforeseen event within our control.
  • Flight routes and destinations may need to be changed due to weather conditions and in these situations, refunds will not be provided. If weather conditions are unsuitable for flying, The tour will contact you as soon as practical before your flight to reschedule to the next available time slot or offer a full refund.
  • Due to the tour's involvement in firefighting and other aerial emergency response operations, on occasion, they will need to preference these operations over scenic flights. Should the need arise, guests will be offered a full refund or the option of rescheduling onto the next available service. The tour reserves the right to change or cancel your service without notice due to emergency operations.
