WHAT TO EXPECT
Discover what makes Bruny Island a must-see destination in Tasmania! This exciting sightseeing and food tour gives you a taste (literally) of what this island gem has to offer. Taste local fresh produce and enjoy everything from oysters to cider, chocolate, fudge and artisan cheeses. You'll also get to spot wildlife in their natural habitat, walk the beaches, climb The Neck Lookout and tour the iconic Cape Bruny lighthouse! There are plenty of short walks to be enjoyed too.
Itinerary:
Your day starts leisurely, with hotel pickups from 6.50 am. You'll enjoy a scenic country and coastal drive to Kettering, where you'll board the ferry. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as you head towards Bruny Island, excitement building as you approach!
Once you arrive, you'll begin the day climbing the Neck and Adventure Bay lookout. The Neck is a famous Bruny Island spot and makes for some great photographs. Afterwards, visit the berry farm in Adventure Bay. (Please note berry farm visit is seasonal)
Next, it's time to pick up a selection of Bruny Island Cheeses, wood-fired bread and dipping oil. You'll head to one of the pristine beaches to sample the cheese, picnic style! If it's raining you'll head to the Mavista Fall's Reserve instead.
Then, with your bellies full, it's a scenic drive through rainforest and over Mount Mangana to Cape Bruny. Relax with a big lunch of local produce overlooking Sunset Beach and the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Choose from an extensive menu of locally caught fresh fish, succulent local lamb, salmon, seafood chowder or the popular seafood platter for two. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are available. If that's not enough, you can give the Bruny Island Cider tasting a try! Make sure you leave room for some freshly shucked oysters though, as they're next on the menu! Farmed just a few hundred metres from where you sit, they'll definitely be some of the freshest you've tasted.
Next, you'll visit South Bruny Island National Park where you'll be astounded by the rugged coastal views and expanses of coastal vegetation that surround you. Keep your eyes out for wildlife including whales, white wallabies, eagles, echidnas and more that call this area home. You'll also go on a tour of the iconic Bruny Island Lighthouse and learn about the history of this building, taking in sea views from its balcony. When it was built, this lighthouse was only the third in Tasmania!
Then, it's time for even more local delights with a chocolate and fudge tasting to round out your afternoon. Plus, there's plenty of time to shop!
You'll arrive back in Hobart by approximately 5.30 pm.
