Day 1:  Port Arthur & Tassie Devils

Day 1:  Start Hobart, End Hobart

 

The tour starts early from Hobart and travels to the Tasman Peninsula, home to Australia’s highest sea cliffs. Enjoy panoramic views of the area from Pirates Bay Lookout, see the interesting Tasman Arch and Devils Kitchen rock formations, and join a short walk along the Waterfall Bay cliff top track. From here, the tour visits the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo for an encounter with local wildlife. Then onwards to the Port Arthur Historic Site where you have 2.5-hours to explore.



Your entry includes a complimentary Harbour Cruise around the Isle of the Dead and a guided walking tour with one of the Site’s expert guides. The return to Hobart is via Federation Chocolate Factory and onto the beautiful historic township of Richmond Village with time to meander the streets and across Australia’s oldest bridge. Before re-entering Hobart, the tour stops for a fabulous view of Hobart from a local lookout.

 

Day 2:  Hobart to Launceston via Wineglass Bay & Freycinet National Park 

Departs Hobart 7.30 am, Returns Launceston 6.30-7.00 pm (bring your bags today!)
Overnight: Launceston accommodation by own arrangement



Day 2:  Highlights

  • Explore Freycinet National Park (4+ hours)
  • Walk to the spectacular Wineglass Bay Lookout (moderate uphill walk 45 mins)
  • Choose the option to extend your walk to the white sands of Wineglass Bay (longer walking option 2.5 hours)
  • Visit the highlights of Freycinet National Park - Honeymoon Bay & Sleepy Bay
  • Take in the spectacular 360-degree views on the Cape Tourville Lighthouse walk (easy 20 mins)
  • Enjoy oysters at Freycinet Marine Farm
  • Reward yourself with local ice cream or a famous Tasmanian scallop pie at the end of the day!



Day 2: Start Hobart, End Launceston 



Wineglass Bay is among the top beaches of the world. Pink granite mountains form the backdrop for secluded bays, pristine waters, white sandy beaches, local wildlife, and walking trails. Travel through the seaside towns of Orford and Swansea as you make your way along the East Coast of Tasmania heading towards Freycinet National Park. On arrival at Freycinet, walk as a group to the Wineglass Bay Lookout where your guide will help you take those sought-after photographs.



From the Lookout, you have the option to return to the start of the walk with our tour guide, or for the keen walkers, you can spend the rest of your time completing the walk down to Wineglass beach (2.5-hours return). If you choose to travel with the guide, the tour will explore more of the National Park and visit Honeymoon Bay, Sleepy Bay, and Cape Tourville lookout, and Great Short Walk. After 4 to 5-hours at Freycinet National Park, you will then continue your journey onto Launceston.



Day 3:  Cradle Mountain World Heritage Area


Departs Launceston 7.30am, Returns Launceston 6.30-7.00pm
Final day – returning to your Launceston accommodation around 6.30 pm

Day 3: Start Launceston, End Launceston


Cradle Mountain National Park is an area of iconic scenery with a variety of walking trails in a stunning world heritage-listed area. With 5-hours to spend in the National Park, the walking itinerary is flexible to suit guests and the weather conditions on the day. After departing Launceston, enjoy a short stop in Sheffield – The Town of Murals. Continue your journey into the mountains and arrive at Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake with around 5 hours of possible walking time before you.


Enjoy lunch by a quiet stream, watch the friendly Cradle wombats in their natural habitat, or enjoy photo opportunities that abound. On the return journey to Launceston, stop and sample some local products at the award-winning Ashgrove Cheese Factory. The tour returns to your Launceston accommodation from 6.30-7.00 pm.

Day 2:  Itinerary


Wineglass Bay is among the top beaches of the world. Pink granite mountains form the backdrop for secluded bays, pristine waters, white sandy beaches, local wildlife, and walking trails. The morning drive travels through the well-preserved Georgian townships of Evandale and Campbell Town. The tour makes a short stop in Campbell Town where you can buy lunch to take along for the day ahead. You have time to discover the Convict Brick Trail that extends through the town, visit the Red Bridge, and check out the tree sculptures depicting the history of the town. 



After a brief stop in Campbell Town, the tour travels to the East Coast, where you catch an amazing view of the area at the Great Oyster Bay Lookout. You can also purchase fresh oysters plucked from the surrounding waters. On arrival at Freycinet, the tour walks as a group to the Wineglass Bay Lookout where your guide will help you take those sought-after photos.



From the Lookout, you have the option to return to the start of the walk with the tour guide, or for the keen walkers, you can spend the rest of your time completing the walk to Wineglass beach (2.5-hours return). We recommend arriving the night before you wish to begin your Big 3 Tour. Meals are not provided, however, there are plenty of opportunities to stop for lunch and snacks on each tour to suit your taste and budget, or you can bring your own. Book your own accommodation. The tour will pick up and drop off at your Hobart/Launceston central city hotel/hostel accommodation. The tour does not pick up and drop off at residential addresses such as Airbnb. Airport drops off available with prior arrangement on the return of Day 3 tour (around 5.30 pm).

  • The tour visits National Parks and wild areas that involve some walking. They are suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness.
  • Tasmania is subject to weather conditions that can change quickly at any time of year. The tour operates in the rain and snow, so we recommend that guests bring clothing and footwear suitable for warm, cold, or wet conditions.
