Where we visit

Day 1: Bangkok Arrival and Welcome Dinner

After your arrival at Bangkok (BKK) Airport, a tour team leader will meet you and transfer you to your Bangkok accommodation.

Alternatively, you can ‘make your own way’ to the arrival accommodation after 2pm where staff will have your name and be able to check you into your room.

Once all travellers have arrived, head out for dinner and drinks together to explore the lively Khao San Road area, including the countless bars and restaurants that are scattered throughout this famous strip!

Please note: Arrivals into BKK Airport must be between 6am and 10pm.

Accommodation: During your time in Bangkok, guests will stay in dorm rooms at the Bed Station Hostel Khaosan. Complete with an on-site bar, you can make the most of the hostel’s shared facilities and make some new friends, or venture out to local attractions like the Grand Palace - which is just a 15 minute walk away. You could also head out for a delicious Tom Yum Kung or any of the other delicious Thai food options which are all located within a 5 minute walk away.

Day 2: Full Day Bangkok Tour

After breakfast on Day 2, stick around for a quick orientation/chat about your trip before hitting the streets of Bangkok! Today, you will experience some of the most famous sites of the capital including the Temple of Dawn, Wat Arun and the Giant Golden Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho) plus a quintessential trip on a classic long tailed boat ride.

Day 3:  Transfer to Chiang Mai

Today you’ll get some free time, so enjoy a lay in, some breakfast and a relaxing morning.

Later in the day, you’ll jump aboard a VIP bus or train and travel unaccompanied for approx. 9 hours to Chiang Mai.

Don’t stress - this part of the trip is all organised by The Operator and their Bangkok team will ensure you make it to the bus or train station on time!

Please note: Check out of your room in Bangkok is by midday. Luggage can be stored safely at the hotel until the evening.

Day 4: Chiang Mai Elephant Home

Today, you’ll be picked up by bus or train and transferred to the Chiang Mai Elephant Home.

Part of an ethical and sustainable eco-tourism project, the experience is located in a village close to Chiang Mai surrounded by mountains and a national park nearby.

Activities you’ll participate in during your time in the home include: Walking with the elephants to the local river and helping bathe them, rafting on the local river, learning how to make elephant vitamin tablets, helping to plant / harvest crops for the elephants and feeding the elephants.

You’ll then be transferred back to your accommodation.

Accommodation: During your time in Chiang Mai you’ll enjoy a stay at the Muan Hostel in dorm-style rooms. Managed by locals & passionate hoteliers, the hostel features a hammock café and social area, a Thai restaurant and is located just opposite the Thapae Gate (Heritage site) and the famous Sunday walking street market!

Surrounded by iconic old-town scenery and many tourist attractions, the best nightlife spots (including Night Bazzar and Zoey) are just a ten minute walk from the hostel.

Days 5 and Day 6: Jungle Trek

After breakfast on Day 5, set out for an amazing two-day trek through the jungle and hills of Chiang Mai. You will pass farm land, rice terraces, hill tribe communities, fantastic view points and enjoy a fresh and delicious lunch at a waterfall. In the afternoon you'll arrive at the top of the valley where you can relax at your unique overnight homestay accommodation.

On Day 6, you’ll spend the morning trekking back down the hill and enjoy one last chance to spend time with the elephants before your transfer back to Chiang Mai City.

Day 7: Chiang Mai City Free Day

Keen to see what else is on offer in Chiang Mai? Today, you and your group have a free day to explore the city, where you can organise an activity if you wish or just relax - the opportunities are endless!

Day 8: Bring on the Beaches

Ready for some fun in the Thailand sun? Today is the start of your beach week! Your tour operator will provide you  with all necessary flight details and pick up time from our Chiang Mai accommodation - please do not be late!

On arrival at Krabi Airport, a driver will be waiting with a sign ‘The Adventure People’ to transfer you to your Ao Nang hotel.

Please note: If you miss your flight you will be responsible for organising your new flight.

Accommodation: During your stay in Krabi, guests will stay in dorm-style rooms at the Pop In Hostel. There’s a reason why they say, ‘once you pop-in, you'll never want to pop out!’ - with this accom situated in the heart of Ao Nang and within walking distance to the beach and a variety of local bars and restaurants.

Whether you’re keen to relax on the beach or chill out at the hostel bar with new friends, there’s even a huge purpose-built communal area which is the ideal place to meet fellow backpackers while on tour!

Day 9: Explore Mangrove Forest and Caves by Kayak

Today you will be picked from your hotel and taken by private taxi to the village of Bor Thor, where you will spend the next few hours exploring the local mangrove forests by kayak. Be sure to check out the several caves and the accompanying cave drawings dating back 3000 years while here.

Your trip ends at a local restaurant where you can buy lunch before being returned by private transport to your hostel.

Day 10 to Day 13: The Beach is Calling

Spend three free days relaxing on the beach, lounging by the pool or exploring the local streets. You are only a few hundred metres away from Ao Nang Beach and can also take the local taxi boats to explore Railay…these days are yours!

Day 14: Island Boat Trip

Your last full day in Krabi ends with a real treat - exploring the local area by boat! Your full day trip includes visits to 2-3 local islands, snorkelling and lunch. Get ready for a fun day out on the waves

Day 15: Tour End

Sadly, Day 15 marks the end of your Thailand Elephants and Beaches 15 Day Adventure. Check out is 11am and then it’s onwards for you and your Thailand adventure.

For included meals, there are always vegetarian and vegan options available but ideally we would be notified of these and other types of special diets including gluten free, allergies, etc.

Thailand can be cheap. You can still have a plate of food for a street vendor for under $3 AUD however there are always more expensive options. From a sit down Thai restaurant, expect to pay $10-$15 AUD - not including alcohol.

Travelling is a huge contributor to global emissions and our current climate crisis. We need to protect our planet, the destinations we love to visit and combat climate change. It is important we all work towards lowering our carbon footprint home and abroad. However, the reality is when we travel we cannot avoid the ‘black stuff’. For what we cannot reduce we can offset. This is carbon neutral travel. Through Gold Standard we measure our trips footprint, reduce where possible and offset the balance.

Please be aware that dress standards in Asia differ from those in western countries.

If you’re planning on visiting religious sites, we recommend that men wear long trousers, and women wear a long skirt, or carry a sarong.

  • A mixture of lightweight clothing with some warm layers (it can get chilly in public transport or on the sleeper trains and buses)
