Big Island Waipio Valley & Waterfalls Tour

Explore majestic Waipio Valley, gorgeous Hamakua Coast, and multiple stunning waterfalls on the east side of the Big Island of Hawaii on this full day of fun and exciting adventure. Discover the island’s diverse natural beauty, including lush rain forests and rugged sea cliffs as your guide shares history and legends.

After pick up in Kona and Kohala area hotels, head toward Waipio Valley while passing through Waimea and Parker Ranch, before switching to a 4WD van to descend into majestic Waipio Valley. As you traverse shallow river streams and pass by taro fields surrounded by native flora and fauna, your guide will share the stories and legends of this special place while you marvel at Hawaii Island’s tallest waterfall, Hi’ilawe Falls, which cascades down 1300 feet in the back of the valley.

Admire the rugged sea cliffs and mile-long black sand beach as you head back to Waipio Valley lookout for the stunning views as you enjoy a picnic-style lunch. With full bellies, the tour continues the drive down the scenic Hamakua Coast. Walk through a rainforest and discover the towering Akaka Falls that plummets 442-foot (135-meter) into a stream-eroded gorge.

Then, if the weather permits, you will get to swim under Kulaniapia private waterfall to cool down and relax. This 60-foot private waterfall can be seen in several Hollywood movies.

In Hilo, you will visit the famous Rainbow Falls. It's a beautiful 80-foot (24-meter) waterfall with a giant banyan tree beside it. You'll also get the chance to descend into the ancient Kaumana lava cave to learn more about the volcanic processes that continue to shape the Big Island.

The adventure ends with the return to Kona or Kohala Coast resorts via Saddle Road nestled next to the world’s tallest sea mountain, Mauna Kea.

Big Island Twilight Volcano and Stargazing Tour

Experience the Big Island’s most striking natural splendours on this small-group tour with a professional local guide sharing knowledge of the island's history, cultures, and geology.

Enjoy a fully narrated adventure that starts with a stop at a Kona Coffee Farm. Walk through the orchards with your guide learning about the harvesting and milling process while sampling a warm cup of Kona-grown coffee. Then, continue the leisurely drive and pass the scenic view of the Kealakekua Bay and South Point, the southernmost point of the United States.

Enjoy a moment to relax and take it all in at Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, a great place to spot marine life from the shore. In addition to the stunning black sand (which is actually lava fragments), this beach is also famous for the population of the endangered Hawksbill turtles and green turtles basking in the sun.

Stop for a local style picnic lunch consisting of teriyaki chicken, fish, sweet potato, and steamed rice with assorted juices, snacks, and bottled water. You'll be re-energised and ready to continue the adventure.

In the afternoon, visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with a trip around the Chain of Craters Road, for the “mountain to sea” experience. Various stops are made to view magnificent volcanic eruptions and flow sites of the past, the beautiful park coastline, and the remarkable Thurston Lava Tube formed hundreds of years ago. In addition, your certified tour guide provides an educational and insightful narrative about the volcanoes as you visit Kilauea Iki Lookout, steam vents, Halema’uma’u Crater, and crater rim trail.

After enjoying a sit-down dinner at a local restaurant near the park, your guide will take you to a secluded and ideal location for stargazing near Mauna Kea. Depending on weather conditions, you will observe starsplanetsgalaxies, the moon, and much more while your guide shares fascinating legends and lore of the sky.

Yes, they are. However, we don’t recommend our tours for very young children (i.e. < 5yrs old) or those with serious mobility ailments. Our tour vehicles are not equipped with a wheelchair lift, but do have plenty of storage space for a collapsible wheelchair and have low steps making them easy to board.
