What to Expect

Despite being recognised as Australia’s seafood frontier, Port Lincoln offers much. much more.

From its rugged coastline, pristine beaches and stunning national parks, to world-class wildlife interactions and delicious local produce, there' so much more to see, do, taste and explore at Port Lincoln.

As the sun rises across the landscape, your Eyre Peninsula exploration begins. You’ll be collected from your Port Lincoln accommodation between 7:30am, and 8am before venturing to the secluded shores and untouched bushland of Lincoln National Park. This coastal wilderness is a haven for some of Australia’s most iconic wildlife. Go untamed as you bear witness to nature in its wildest state. Here, emus stroll the shoreline, and the dense bush beyond is alive with the native birds.

Ascend to Wanna Lookout for sweeping views across Sleaford Bay. From the clifftop, chances are you’ll spot dolphins frolicking below or, come winter, whales making their way along the coast. Morning tea is paired with breathtaking views spanning across the harbour at a locally-loved picnic spot, then kick off your shoes and walk along the powder-white sand of Surfleet Beach.

A scenic drive along Whalers Way brings you to Mikkira Station and the chance to get up close with some 150 wild koalas residing among the mana gum mallee. Home to the only wild koala population on the peninsula, as well as kangaroos and emus, this sanctuary is a must for wildlife lovers. In addition, the on-site historic homestead offers a glimpse back in time to the lives of the region’s pioneers.

Making our way back towards Port Lincoln, stop for lunch at a popular local haunt, the Fresh Fish Place. Sample the region’s world-renowned seafood as you watch the day’s catch brought into Australia’s largest port.

Soak in the last moments of the day atop Winters Hill lookout. Finally, we’ll drop you back to your Port Lincoln accommodation between 5pm and 5:30 pm, with a camera full of moments that will be etched in your memory long after you’ve left the Eyre Peninsula.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Dietary requirements can be catered for; please advise these when booking.

Australia has a relaxed attitude to standards of dress. However, depending on the time of year you are travelling, you may need to be prepared for the extremes. Temperatures in Southern Australia in winter (June, July, August) can get quite cold with daytime temperatures from 10 to18 degrees Celsius and nighttime temperatures can reach zero. Please ensure you dressappropriately. You’ll be nice and snug when travelling in the vehicles and staying in your accommodation but for the outdoor activities you’ll need warm jackets and a raincoat, just in case.

In summer, daytime temperatures can be extreme from November to April with temperatures generally in the 30s but sometimes reaching over 40 degrees Celsius. Be prepared to endure extra physical stress due to the heat at these times, especially while on walks. If travelling in summer we recommend that you wear loose, cool, cotton clothing to protect yourself from the harsh sun. A sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses are a must.

  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • A hat
  • A jacket and raincoat
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle
  • Swimmers and beach towel (optional)
  • And of course, a camera
