What time do I depart and return?
Your Master Reef Guide host will meet you at check in at 7:15am at the Passions of Paradise desk at the Reef Fleet Terminal, 1 Spence street.
You'll return at around 5pm. The Operator always tries to do some genuine sailing on the way home, and so times can vary either way by 10 or 15 minutes – but generally it is 5pm.
Are transfers to and from the terminal included?
The Operator transfers locally as well as from the Northern Beaches. They do not, unfortunately do transfers from Port Douglas as it is more than one hour away from Cairns. These transfers come at an extra cost. Contact us for more info.
Will I see sharks on the Great Barrier Reef?
You may be lucky enough to see a little white or black tip reef shark pass you by as small reef sharks are common. However, they are very shy.
What is the weather like on the Great Barrier Reef?
Due to the varied nature of activities and the unpredictability of the weather, each weekly program will be tailored to suit the conditions. Sometimes the weather will dictate which sites are visited. Your Master Reef Guide will plan your itinerary in accordance with the environment on the day!
What do I need to bring?
If you have your diving logbook, bring that with you on the boat. If you have neither, call your certifying agency and get them to email you a copy of your scuba diving certification. Otherwise, there is a pre-dive checkout test you can do with the instructor on the boat to verify your skill level and current scuba diving knowledge.
Bring, hat, sunscreen, bathing gear, sunglasses, towel, etc. as you would for travelling to the beach.
How fit do I need to be to snorkel/dive?
The Passions of Paradise crew will look after you. The boat has a large range of snorkel vests and buoyancy aids available for you to use, and there are two snorkel stations near our boat for you to hold on to while you build up your confidence. Your crew will also hop in the water with you until you are comfortable.
Anybody with general good health can enjoy the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. Please note, all scuba divers must complete a dive medical questionnaire aboard the boat. Some illnesses such as asthma may preclude you from scuba diving. Please check with your doctor if you have any queries.
