Frequently Asked Questions

Due to limited space and strictly enforced road laws regarding weight limits, passengers can carry a maximum of 10 kg. One small soft-sided bag plus a day pack is essential. Please do not bring hard/externally framed suitcases as they are difficult to store and can damage equipment and other travellers' belongings. If your trip is beginning and ending at the same location, excess luggage can usually be stored at your arrival/departure hotel and can be collected after your trip.

Some essential items include:

  • Lightweight clothing. You will need to bring a mixture of lightweight clothing and layers. Long shirts and pants are useful to protect against the harsh Australian sun. Clothes should be easy to wash and dry.
  • Comfortable, closed-in shoes. These will help to protect your feet from cuts and scratches when walking through bush/grasslands and will act as a protective barrier in the rare case of a bite or sting. A pair of sandals or thongs/flip-flops are great for the beach.
  • Sun protection. A wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen & sunglasses
  • Refillable water bottle that is recommended to be at least 1.5-litre capacity
  • Try to avoid bringing unnecessary valuables

Some recommended items include:

  • Personal medical kit. A larger kit will be on hand with your guide, but we recommend you carry items such as mild pain killers, electrolytes, Band-Aids and insect repellent.
  • A headlamp or torch is recommended around your accommodation at night
  • Camera with spare batteries
  • Beach/swimming towel

Some optional items include:

  • Sleep sheet. If you are travelling during the hot season you may wish to pack a sleep sheet so you will be comfortable no matter what the weather
  • Ear plugs
  • Binoculars for spotting wildlife

This trip can be enjoyed by just about anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. Some trips may have individual inclusions that may be of a higher physical rating compared to the overall rating of the trip. Please read the day-to-day itinerary carefully to find out more details on each day's activities, and whether they are suitable for you. Activities can be opted out of if you don't want to participate.

HEAT

In the Top End of Australia temperatures in the months from September to March can hit the mid-thirties, and humidity levels can be uncomfortable. Please be prepared to endure extra physical stress due to the heat at these times, especially while on walks. These temperatures can also place stress on the air-conditioning units within our vehicles which can make travelling uncomfortable. Your tour leader/driver will assist with regular breaks and information to assist in keeping well hydrated.

After we’ve left town it can be very difficult to source special dietary requests. Travellers with special dietary requirements or food allergies are required to advise The Operator at the time of booking to ensure the trip will be suitable and accommodating.

On most days, breakfast and lunch will be included. Breakfast will be provided at your hotel while lunch will consist of a picnic in a scenic location along the way. For dinner, your leader will be able to recommend suitable options.

The beauty of this group style of travel is that it caters to travellers who are travelling solo and who want to meet and share experiences with like-minded people.

Rooming is organised on a twin-share basis. We pair up solo travellers with another traveller of the same gender.

We also have an optional single supplement available on most trips for travellers who prefer to have their own room.
