A luxurious tour through Japan's spiritual home, this night food tour is a celebration of Japanese traditional culture and Kaiseki cuisine. You'll get to try traditional delights, meet locals and learn about geisha life. There's also a delicious feast of global and local flavours to enjoy!
Your tour starts near the famous Yasaka Shrine and from there you'll head out with your local guide into the streets of Gion. Gion is the city's most famous geisha area and is the centre for Kyoto's arts. Be transported into Japan's traditional past and enjoy exploring the maze of old wooden buildings, teahouses and exclusive Japanese restaurants. Learn about this exquisite part of Kyoto as your guide tells you stories as you walk.
Next, it's time to explore the gorgeous Shirakawa neighbourhood. Whet your appetite with a special Kyoto treat as you wander and learn a little about geisha life.
After you've wandered the city streets, it's time for a delicious traditional dinner. Get ready for a feast! You'll enjoy a 10-course kaiseki meal, a perfect fusion of Japanese and global flavours. Kaiseki is a multi-course meal and uses seasonal ingredients all carefully prepared so the flavours blend beautifully. A visit in Kyoto is never complete without trying a Kaiseki dinner! You'll get to experience some of the area's freshest food like seasonal sashimi, fresh tofu, tempura and a traditional dessert.
This is a 3-hour tour, starting at 5 pm and finishing at 8 pm. Meeting point is at the 1st Floor of Starbucks at The Old Kyoto Gion Hotel.

You must be over 18 to book and confirm a tour.
In accordance with Japanese law, you must be over 20 years old to purchase and consume alcohol. And if you would like to drink on our tours we recommend you bring an identification card just in case the staff requests proof of age.
Yes, all of our administration and tour guides can speak English. Most are fully bilingual. We are adding other languages to our offerings as we grow and expand the business.
Yes, we have vegetarian menu options available for all tours; please tell us in advance so we can make the proper arrangements.
Yes, people who have allergies may join the tours; however please keep in mind that we cannot make a 100% allergy free food guarantee since all the food is prepared in the same kitchen. Cross-contamination is possible.
Out of respect for our other guests, we must start the tour on time. There is a grace period of 5 minutes after the tour start time; however, if you are not there by the end of the grace period you most probably will be left behind. As our tours are structured with stops at popular eateries, our schedule is created to arrive at times outside of their peak hours. Also, we have reservations for certain periods of time. We must meet our scheduled times to ensure the best tour for everyone.
Arigato Japan is not liable for theft or bodily injury that a participant suffers. We are not responsible for no shows or late arrivals. Please book a tour with sufficient time to arrive.
Please check the meeting point information our tour pages to know where to meet us. If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the meeting time, we will, unfortunately, have to start the tour without you.
The tours run on a pre-determined schedule, and the participant is responsible for keeping up with the tour. We are not responsible for a participant’s physical condition or choice of attire that may affect his ability to keep up. We may walk about 2 or more kilometres.
There are no free participants (except children under two years old) or participants that do not eat and simply accompany a participant.
We must abide by this condition to ensure that everyone’s experience is respected. We will try our best to make sure guests with dietary concerns and restrictions can enjoy our tours as well.
Cancellation fees are as follows:
- 7+ days before tour date: full refund
- 4 to 6 days before original tour date: 50% refund
- We cannot accept cancellations within 72 hours or less prior to tour: and we offer no refund in that time frame
