This unique tour provides the most comprehensive exploration of Kilauea Volcano’s past, present, and future.
The day starts with collection from your west coast hotel before travelling along the scenic Kona coastline towards the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The first stop on the itinerary is a premium coffee farm, Greenwell Coffee. Here you'll enjoy a picnic lunch and taste the famous Kona coffee right from the source at this iconic location.
After lunch, the drive continues south. You'll visit Punalu’u Bake Shop – the southernmost bakery in the United States! Satisfy your sweet tooth and enjoy a Portuguese pastry, the malasada or pick up a roll of Hawaiian rainbow sweet bread. In the same area is the renowned Punalu’u Black Sand Beach, where turtle sightings are frequent. Walk along this unique beach and watch for turtles as they bask in the warm sun of Punalu’u.
Next up is a journey to see Mother Nature at her mightiest at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The tour highlights all the park’s best features including Chain of Craters Road, natural steam vents and views of the new Halemau’mau Crater.
Having explored the volcanoes during the day, it's time to take a break and indulge in a delicious meal. Head to the historic Kilauea Lodge for a 3-course dinner.

How many participants are there?
Minimum unit order: 1 persons.
What should I bring?
You should bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a camera, and a hat (optional). We recommend bringing a small backpack or tote bag as there is plenty of room in our spacious cabin. Even though we visit the black sand beach, we will not be swimming on this tour so bathing suits and/or towels are not required.
Water, snacks, and two meals will be served. The tour makes occasional stops for snacks and beverages, so bring money for additional purchases.
What should I wear?
Although Hawaii is home to the endless summer, there are places and times where the temperature can drop substantially. Weather can change dramatically from hot and humid to cool and wet conditions. We recommend wearing comfortable footwear, a hat and sunglasses, and shorts or long pants. Comfortable and light clothing is recommended. Jackets will be provided in the event of cooler temperatures or inclement weather. Long pants are recommended for after sunset temperatures. We also provide rain jackets, parkas, and hot towel service.
What's for lunch?
Lunch is a deli-style picnic which includes an oven-roasted turkey breast sandwich on Pulalu'u Hawaiian sweet rolls with Waipoli butter lettuce, island-style kettle chips and a fresh-baked white chocolate-macadamia nut cookie. Seasonal selections may vary, and vegetarian and vegan options are available.
What's for dinner?
Enjoy Hawaii's best flavours as this tour includes a 3-course dinner at Historic Kilauea Lodge prior to summit night views. Guests will be able to select from a number of set menu items perfect for any palate. Seasonal selections may vary, and vegetarian and vegan options are available.
Can you accommodate special diets?
All experiences include tasty meals with local ingredients made by local chefs. We accommodate special diets or preferences by request.
How large will the tour group be?
We operate Mercedes Sprinter mini-coaches with a maximum capacity of 13 passengers.
How much walking or hiking is there?
Nearly all tours include the opportunity for a few short walks. However, none of them includes any walking longer than 20 minutes. Should guests choose to skip any of our short walks, Kailani guides are happy to make further accommodations.
Can you accommodate wheelchairs?
Our vans are equipped to handle easy storage of a collapsible wheelchair or other medical equipment. We do not have a wheelchair lift, however. We have also installed an extra hydraulic side step for extra easy on and off for all riders.
Will my cell phone work during the tour?
Although some cell phone carriers have spotty coverage on the Big Island, we’ll be within cell phone range for most of the tours. We have a charger on board in case your battery runs low, but some guests bring their own mobile battery charger. Then again, it might actually be nice to set down your phone for a while, too. We also rely on “The Coconut Wireless” or shouting across canyons to communicate.
