What to Expect

This is a Daintree adventure not to be missed! Enjoy a full day immersed in the magnificent beauty and rich history of the Daintree National Park. The Daintree Rainforest is the oldest rainforest in the world, at an estimated 180 million years old –  that's even older than the Amazon! It's also Australia's largest rainforest and has a diverse landscape filled with flowing streams, waterfalls, gorges, and an incredible ensemble offlora and fauna. Plus, it boasts a rich Indigenous history, with The Kukuk Yalangi people the traditional custodians of the land.

Your adventure starts at a secret location on the Mossman River for a one of a kind Mossman River Drift Snorkelling tour. This exciting and unique water adventure along the Mossman River is the perfect experience for water and nature lovers. You'll journey down the river with a combination of swimming, snorkelling, floating and walking. It's an amazing eco-immersion adventure that’s different every time!

Step into the cool, crystal-clear water and drift with the current as you discover life under the water’s surface. As you explore one of the cleanest rivers in Australia, keep an eye out for some of the friendly inhabitants, including over 30 species of fish, turtles, water dragons, colourfulbirds, electric blue butterflies, and even the elusive platypus!

After a delicious lunch to refuel, enjoy a traditional Kuku Yalanji smoking ceremony at the Mossman Gorge; you’ll be cleansed of bad spirits and have traditional rainforest body paint applied.

Then you'll join a 1 hr 30 min guided Dreamtime walk through the forest. Surrounded by lush green rainforest, your guide takes you through some of the most stunning parts of the Daintree National Park. As you explore Mossman Gorge, stand in awe beneath the giant strangler figs while your guide teaches you all about their unique life-cycle. Plus, keep on the lookout for the Boyd’s Forest Dragon. Learn about these wonderful creatures found nowhere else on earth! You'll leave with a deeper understanding of this breath-taking rainforest.

We don’t swim with crocs!

You should always be Croc-wise in Croc country; that is why you can rest assured that our tour operates in a very safe, Croc-Free stretch of water.

Crocodiles use the water, sun and shade to maintain their preferred body temperature of 30–33°C. Where we swim is too clear, too cold at 16-22°C, and too shaded for crocodiles. The cool water is one reason we provide you with a very fashionable wetsuit to use during your tour.

Yes, the rainforest loves the rain! For your comfort, we also have umbrellas for you to use during the tour; If heavy rain is forecast, it’s best to bring a change of clothes.

River Drift Snorkelling may be affected by heavy rainfall. If we are unable to safely use the river, we will offer an alternative wet weather itinerary (still plenty of rainforest to explore). However, If you wish to cancel prior to start of tour, we will provide a full refund.

The tour will only be cancelled in extreme conditions: when it is unsafe to be outside.

Yes! The crystal-clear water in the Mossman River is perfect for enjoying a refreshing swim.

All of our guides are trained in river safety and will assess if the main river is safe to use on the day. If you have concerns about your ability to swim, please talk to our guide before entering the water.

If the Main swimming area is not suitable, there is an impressive waterhole along the walking trail we can use.

The great thing about the Mossman Gorge is how accessible it is. Along the trail, there are some steps and small obstacles; with most of the walk on fairly flat ground. The walk crosses a suspension bridge that boasts spectacular views of Mossman River and the unique flora and fauna of the Daintree Rainforest. With up to 3km of boardwalks and paths, we take our time, as we learn about this ancient landscape; usually spending 1.5-2 hours to get through.
