Meet your tour group and tour leader at the Tour Provider Office at 8 am. From here you depart from Florence by fast speed train and arrive at Bologna Centrale where you will take to the heart of FICO Eataly World. Here you speak to artisans at the 40 farming factories with 2 hectares of open-air fields and stables housing more than 200 animals and 2000 cultivars. Hear about the processes involved in making iconic Italian food products. Learn about food processing by observing how meat, fish, cheese, pasta, oil, beer, sweets, etc. are processed. After the visit, stop in some of the 45 restaurants, trattorias, bistros and street food kiosks to taste Italy's most traditional and innovative recipes. Take a walk through the markets and shops and buy some of the products on offer.
In the afternoon head to the city centre to explore the most authentic and real aspects of Bologna by encountering centuries of history through monuments, palaces, and distinctive streets. You will have a look at Piazza Maggiore, with its important palaces and at via Rizzoli to understand the original plan of the city and how it has changed throughout history. You will walk through the most famous food district of the city (the Quadrilatero), where the local food market takes place every day. Then you will stop at the Palazzo Della Mercanziaand the two medieval towers, now the symbol of the city. You will visit the beautiful and peculiar Complex of Santo Stefano and the Church of Saint Petronius, one of the biggest in Europe. The guide will take you into the narrow streets of the Jewish ghetto, where the Jews were forced to live till the Italian Unification.
Once the tour is over, we aim to have you back in Florence at the meeting point by 6:30 pm.
