Why Do We Love This
Learn to cook Japanese cuisine from the locals AND you get to eat it all, what's not to love?! You'll get to make 9 delicious dishes from appetisers to dessert and experience authentic Japanese cooking.
What to Expect
Love Japanese food? Then get ready to learn the secrets of authentic Japanese cooking. You'll learn how to make 9 colourful dishes and even get to taste your creations! Taught by locals, this cooking class is a fantastic way to learn the art of traditional Japanese cooking.
Start your class by preparing a simple dish of sesame tofu, a great vegetarian dish and easy to recreate at home! Next, you'll whip up a dish of steamed veggies with miso sauce, a dish full of colour and delicious salty flavour.
Feeling full yet? Rolled egg, Japan's version of an omelette is next! Try out your frying pan skills and see how neatly you can roll. Afterwards, try your hand at making a Dashi based clear soup. Dashi is used as the base for an array of soups in Japan so it's a classic recipe to have in your repertoire.
Next, it's time for a classic - sashimi! Rice is flavoured with rice wine vinegar then topped with finely sliced seafood or sometimes meat. Usually, a sushi chef or 'itamae' has to train for 10 years before serving sashimi in a restaurant, but today you'll get to serve your creation straight away.
Your next dish is another Japanese classic - tender Wagyu Beef steak. This meat is famous around the world for its juiciness and delicious taste. Try it with freshly simmered pumpkin for an extra flavour hit. Yum!
Your final savoury course is a beautifully light Accordion Cucumber Salad. Made from cucumbers pickled in a yummy soy vinegar dressing, this dish is a perfect palate cleanser for the end of your meal. What's really special about this salad is the way the cucumber is cut, so watch your teacher closely and try to recreate the interesting accordion shape!
And don't forget dessert! Icecream with Kuromitsu and Kinako is on the menu, a traditional Japanese dessert consisting of ice cream topped with balls of roasted soybean powder and gooey 'black honey'.
At the end of your class, there'll be the chance to take photos of your dishes before you eat - if you can wait that long!
Classes go for three hours, and begin at 9.30 am until 12:30 pm.
