In your travels through this beautiful country, you may have noticed paintings in the Cambodian markets around town depicting every aspect of Cambodian life, from the floating villages of the Tonle Sap to the rolling rice fields and the quintessential Angkor sunset. These paintings are the work of talented local artists, each with his or her own style and characteristics. One of the most interesting forms of painting you’ll notice is the art of spoon painting, where you use the spoon as a brush to paint. That’s right! The spoon becomes your painting tool in this creative class, and the best part is you don't need to have any prior experience to create something worth going up on your wall. How’s that for a super cool Cambodian souvenir?
Spoon painting is a craft that has been enjoyed by artists for years and years. Participants of this specific class will learn from the talented Svay Em who spent his childhood watching Chinese movies where the artists inspired in him an interest for art. In 1998, Em moved to Siem Reap to study and at an arts school. His first professional jump start came when he was invited to paint a Pagoda's Fresco. Svay Em hopes to inspire people through his art, and by taking this class you can help to further fuel that drive so that he can continue to teach these courses and further hone his skills to spread to the world at large.
Participants of this 2 hour spoon painting class will learn from a professional instructor who will guide you with patience and kindness to ensure that what you create is an artwork you can be proud of. Join our host on this unique experience and add an artistic touch to your travels. Or better yet, bring your personalized gift from the Kingdom Of Angkor to a loved one back home!
