What to Expect
A private surf lesson is a great option for a beginner who wants to take their surfing career to the next level! This private lesson offers more flexibility to cater to your experience level — choose to take a 1:1 or 1:2 private lesson.
Experienced surf instructors will tailor your lesson to suit your ability and will spend every moment helping you progress. During the lesson, the instructor will get to know your expectations so they can adapt their teaching methods to your personality, style, and level. This is also a great option for kids under the age of 10 who are too small to participate in a group lesson.
The surf school will provide you with equipment fitting and safety instruction. Depending on your level, you’ll learn the basics of surfing, plus surfboard vocabulary, stance, posture, and water and beach safety briefing. You’ll get custom fitted for a wetsuit and surfboard at the trailer located on Ngarunui Beach.
Then you’ll be ready to hit the surf! Your instructor will head into the water with you to make sure you're all set to ride the waves. Your instructor will help you choose a wave, line your board up, and push you into the perfect ride (if you need it)! By the end of the lesson, you'll have learned a few techniques to help you improve and keep at it!
Raglan is one of the world's greatest surf destinations in New Zealand! From Te Kopua in town to Ruapuke on the other side of Mount Karioi, Raglan hides plenty of surfing spots — but Ngarunui is the best place to surf as it is one of the most consistent spots with epic banks.
