If you've ever wanted to carve up the waves, now's the time to learn with a 2 hr beginner's lesson at Lennox Head.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Looking to start your surfing journey? Join in with the locals on this fun and safe 2 hr beginner surfing lesson. It's perfect for absolute newbies wanting to try surfing for the first time, or for people needing a refresher before hitting the waves.
The beautiful Lennox Head is just a short, 15-minute drive south of Byron Bay, and is one of Australia’s National Surfing Reserves. As such, it's the perfect place to hit the waves for the first time. There are plenty of different breaks that suit every level of skill, and lots of room to learn.
You'll be surfing in small supportive groups and will learn all of the surf basics including; warm-up, paddling, catching waves and standing! The professional and friendly instructors look forward to sharing the amazing benefits of surfing, including fitness, fun, mood booster and a way to spend some time in nature.
The lesson price includes all equipment: board, wet suit, rash vest, sunscreen and zinc, plus hands-on instruction. All you need is to show up with a smile on your face and be ready to have fun! Allow 3 hours for the full experience.

How many participants are there?
Minimum unit order: 1 persons.
What do I need to bring?
All you need to bring along is your swimwear and towel. We provide all equipment (wetsuit, surfboard, sunscreen and zinc).
Can I store valuables during my lesson?
We encourage you to leave anything valuable or important in your hotel room or at home, we do provide storage for your clothes and towel.
Does the lesson include equipment rental as well?
It sure does! Our lesson price includes everything you need; a wetsuit, surfboard, rash-vest and sunscreen. Just wear your swimmers and bring along a towel.
What if it's raining?
As we say, you’re going to get wet anyway! Some of the best waves come with the rain! Our lessons are held rain, hail or shine. The only reason we will cancel is if the conditions are dangerous.
Do I need to be able to swim?
A lot of our lessons are held in waist-deep water but we do ask that you’re able to swim 50 metres (the length of an Olympic swimming pool) for all group lessons. Contact us if you are unsure of your swimming ability.
Do you have a wetsuit that will fit me?
Yes! We have a huge range of quality O’Neill wetsuits in all shapes and sizes.
Can I use my own board in the lesson?
If you’ve booked into a private lesson you can bring your own board. If you’re a beginner we ask that you use our excellent soft-boards. They are the perfect tool for starting out!
Am I too old to surf?
The oldest person we have taught is 93! If you’re 94 we’d love to meet you!
Will I be able to stand up in my first lesson?
Everyone learns at a different pace but most people do stand up on their first lesson. We recommend you take a course of at least three lessons to really experience the feeling of surfing.
What time are the lessons?
We schedule our lessons to take into account the daily tides and conditions – so our lesson times change from day to day. When you make a booking you will be shown the time options for your preferred date.
- The minimum age is 10 years
- Lessons take place in waist-deep water, however, participants should be able to swim 50 metres (the length of an Olympic swimming pool) for all group lessons
- Private lessons are available on request
In the event that you need to cancel or rescheduled your booking, the following fees will apply:
- Cancellations at any time: 100% of the cost
- Rescheduling more than 24 hours before departure: no fee
- Rescheduling within 24 hours of departure: 100% of the cost
