What should I bring?
Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water, camera, money for souvenirs, food and drinks.
How much time should I allow at each park?
Allow 3 to 4 hours at Hartley's Crocodile Adventures; it's open from 8.30 am – 5.00 pm. Then, at the Kuranda Parks, allow 30 – 45 minutes at each. They're both open 10.00 am – 4.00 pm.
Where are the parks located? Are they close to each other?
Kuranda Koala Gardens & Birdworld Kuranda are not in close proximity to Hartley's. Therefore, it is suggested that the Kuranda parks are visited on a different day than your Hartley's visit.
Hartley's is in Wangetti, 45 minutes north of Cairns, while Kuranda Koala Gardens & Birdworld Kuranda are situated in Kuranda within the Heritage Markets.
Is Hartley's Great Australian Wildlife Experience Accessible?
Yes it is!
Access to the saltwater crocodile viewing area is made easy with wide concrete paths, though some assistance may be required to navigate small gradients along the way. The park has put careful thought into the viewing pens for lizards and snakes, allowing visitors to observe the occupants in their natural environment through large glass panels.
The Tropical Walk-through Aviary is accessible through an airlock system for the safety of the birds, with gates that are lightweight and easy to open, featuring self-closing mechanisms. Similar construction and ease of use can be found in all gates throughout the park.
The entry to the Gondwana Gateway is via an inclined pathway, and some assistance may be needed. Once inside, the koala display and wallabies area is flat and easy to navigate. Another inclined pathway leads to the Monitors, Snakes, and Quolls, with viewing pens for reptiles featuring large glass panels and easy-to-look-through mesh for up-close encounters with the animals.
Access to the Cassowary Gateway requires caution, as it involves a steep path, and signage indicates the need for caution for those using mobility devices. Assistance may be required for some visitors navigating the path. However, once inside the Cassowary area, visitors can enjoy up-close views of the magnificent cassowary. At the end of the cassowary viewing area, a small compacted gravel path leads in a loop around the rainforest habitat area.
