Frequently Asked Questions

There are 2 main types of dangerous jellyfish in our local waters. The Box Jellyfish is coastal dwelling and is rarely seen on the reef. They breed in estuaries and live their life on the shoreline away from the reef. The Urikandji Jellyfish is also predominantly a coastal dweller but is occasionally found on the reef. The stinger season in North Queensland is from November to April. Stinger suits are available for hire at $6 per person.

We suggest you bring the following: • Towel • Hat & Sunglasses • 50+ sunscreen • Travel calm (ginger tablets available on board) • Certification card (certified divers) • Money for any on board purchases • Warm clothing for the end of the day. You are also welcome to bring your own equipment for diving and snorkelling if you prefer, though, equipment hire is price inclusive.

We recommend you read the medical questionnaire for resort diving. Should you find that you answer yes to any of the medical questions found on this form you will require a dive medical. We suggest that if this is the case and you answered YES, a medical complying with current Queensland standards should be arranged prior to traveling with us.

Reef Daytripper is one of the few vessels remaining in Cairns catering for clients who wish to travel to the reef in smaller groups. Reef Daytripper will carry just 20 persons plus crew giving you a much more personal service on-board and while diving or snorkeling.

The outward and return journeys are approximately just over 2 hours of travel time. We are motor sail and use no more than 60 litres of fuel per day. This means we have the lowest carbon footprint of any charter boat operating off Cairns, and are the most eco-friendly option. This allows us to conduct all briefings at a relaxed pace and gives you time to mingle and relax before commencing the days activities, and enjoy the scenery with a complementary glass of wine as we sail back to Cairns.
