WHAT TO EXPECT

If you're keen to learn how the famous Coffin Bay oysters are grown and harvested, but only have limited time, this is the ideal tour for you. It only takes 1 hr 30 mins and is a chilled and relaxing time on the water.

This cruise takes you to view the Kellidie Bay oyster farms including the original first oyster farm in Coffin Bay. You'll also cruise around the Coffin Bay township waterways, enjoying a look at the town from the water. Your guide for the day is an oyster farmer who will teach you the history of oyster farming with fascinating insights from first-hand experience.

Then, if you would like to immerse yourself further in the experience, the option to walk around in the water on the farm is also available. Just remember to bring your bathers and a towel.

Along the way, you'll also be able to indulge in half a dozen oysters plucked from the water during the tour and shucked on board by the staff – you can't get fresher than that!

Finally, the custom-made boat used on this tour is designed specifically for maximum enjoyment. There are intimate tables for mingling with family, friends or other guests, as well as very large windows that can open on lovely days for you to catch all the action.

FAQ

As this is a boat tour please remember to dress appropriately for the weather. It can turn cold quickly so a warm jacket and beanie are advisable. Even on a sunny day, the wind blowing over the water can quickly become very cold.

Sunscreen, sunglasses and a camera should be on your list of things to bring. If you believe you might venture into the water at the farm and don't want to wait for the shared waders then wear your bathers for the quick option into the water on nice days. Please bring your own towel.

Our boat is a very stable boat that bridges the waves when travelling along and does not roll around on the top of the water when stationary.  It is very unusual for someone to feel seasick.  If you are on tour and do feel sick we ask that you bring this to our attention so that we can minimise the circumstances that are causing this for you.

We recommend that you allow 45 mins to travel comfortably by car the distance from Port Lincoln to Coffin Bay.  There is parking available at the Coffin Bay boat ramp.

Yes, we do. Our new tour boat is specially built for your comfort and this includes a toilet but it can only be accessed by two steps down into it with hand rails for assistance if required.

Our entry doors have been specially designed that they are wide enough for wheelchair access. As we board from a floating pontoon this also allows for wheelchair access. The toilet does not have wheelchair access though.
