WHAT TO EXPECT

Discover the beautiful and exciting Corroboree Billabong and Mary River Wetlands with this trip from Darwin. Get picked up from your accommodation at 9 am for the drive to the Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve. Along the way, your experienced guide will provide insightful commentary about the area and its history. The Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve was originally set up as a large-scale rice growing project. Now, it's home to an incredible array of local and migratory waterbirds, as well as Australia's largest populations of snakes! You'll also be able to take photos of the beautiful Sacred Lotus and Native Lilies that call the wetlands home.

However, the highlight of the day is an amazing 2Hr 30 Min cruise through the waterways of the billabong. Explore the wetlands, getting up close and personal with the flora and fauna. It's home to the largest concentration of saltwater crocodiles in the world. View these prehistoric creatures in their natural environment, cruising beside the vessel or basking in the sun on the banks of the billabong. Bird lovers will appreciate the prolific populations of Sea Eagles, Jabirus, Jacanas, Darters, Herons, Ibis, Magpie Geese, Brolgas, Kingfishers, and more. Don't forget to bring your camera and binoculars! You'll also enjoy a delicious lunch on board, as you cruise through the tranquil waters. It's the ultimate dining with a view. Feel free to ask your experienced guide any questions – they're a wealth of knowledge and will ensure your day is filled with the best the billabong has to offer.

Once the cruise is finished, it's a 90-minute trip back to Darwin, returning to your accommodation around 5 pm.

This wetland experience operates during the dry season only, from May to October.

Yes, the boat has a full-length canopy so there is always some shade available. Depending on your cruise time and your seat on the boat though, there is a possibility that you may be in the sun at some stage. It's recommended to bring sunscreen on the 2.5-hour cruise.

Yes, but please consider other passengers as this is a nature-based cruise in peaceful surroundings. You know your infant best and whether or not they would be content for the duration of a cruise. We would generally suggest the shorter duration cruises to be the most suitable option.

Lunches are healthy and consist of individual pre-packed fresh salads with dressings. There is also a selection of cold sliced meats and bread so people can make sandwiches if they wish. Vegetarian options are available, but you will need to advise us of your dietary needs when you make your booking.

Almost certainly! It's rare that the cruise does not see any crocodiles. The time of year and the time of day that you take a cruise will determine if the crocs are swimming in the water or sunning themselves on the bank.

Yes, definitely. We generally see about 30 different species of birds on our cruises.

2021-02-18 11:57:101

Generally speaking the early morning or late afternoon cruises are best for birdlife. In saying that, we see just as much on the 2.5-hour midday cruise because there is time to cover a greater section of the wetlands than in the shorter duration cruises

These wetlands are only accessible from April to November. They are beautiful throughout this complete period with an abundance of water lilies, fantastic wildlife, and plenty of birds.
