What to Expect

Walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout to see one of the world's Top 10 Beaches! Wineglass Bay is nestled in the Freycinet National Park on the East Coast of Tasmania. As one of Tasmania's first National Parks, this coastal area is rich in stunning landscapes. Pink granite mountains form the backdrop for secluded bays, pristine waters, white sandy beaches, local wildlife and walking trails.

You'll depart Hobart heading east to the beautiful eastern coastline of Tasmania. Pass through the seaside towns of Orford and Swansea as you make your way north to Freycinet National Park.

On arrival, begin your adventures and walk as a group to the Wineglass Bay Lookout; this is a moderate uphill walk of around 45 mins. Once at the top, you are rewarded with that world-famous view of Wineglass Bay and the stunning Freycinet National Park. Enjoy the moment, take in the views and let your guides help you with those sought-after photographs. The walk to Wineglass Bay Lookout is one of the Great Short Walks of Tasmania and requires good mobility and adequate fitness. It is 1.3 km uphill before returning downhill, so sturdy footwear/runners are best suited for this walk.

From the Lookout, you have the option to return to the start of the walk with your tour guide, or for the keen hikers; you can choose to spend the rest of your time completing the walk down to Wineglass Bay Beach.

The Wineglass Bay Beach Walk is a 2 hr 30 min return walk, and adequate fitness is required. The tour has ample time for you to do the full walk to Wineglass Bay Beach and return. Once on the beach, you can enjoy your (BYO) lunch in this stunning setting, jump in the pristine (albeit chilly!) waters for a swim, or wander along the white sands. This is one of the most rewarding walks in Tasmania to a stunning location.

If you prefer to select the shorter walking option, return from the Wineglass Bay Lookout with your guide and explore other areas of Freycinet National Park. Visit Honeymoon Bay, Cape Tourville Lighthouse Walk, and Sleepy Bay lookout.

After around 4 hrs at Freycinet National Park, you'll re-group, ready to begin the trip back to Hobart.

The final stop on this East Coast adventure is the stunning Devil's Corner Winery, where you will have time to take in the magnificent view. On-site, you can enjoy a wine tasting, wood-fired pizza, fresh seafood and Oysters from Freycinet Marine Farm, and ice creams, all available at your own expense on the day.

You'll return to Hobart around 6pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lunch, snacks or beverages are not supplied on this tour, but your guide will stop along the way for you to purchase food to suit your budget and taste. This is usually a Bakery style stop in a regional town along the way to the main destination for the day. You will then be able to enjoy a lunch break during the tour day, usually somewhere scenic and suitable for a rest stop. You are also welcome, of course, to bring along your own packed lunch to enjoy on the day. However, if you have special dietary requirements, bringing your own prepared lunch /snacks may be better. Please bring a large water bottle for the day.

The small group tours use Toyota Commuter & Toyota Coaster vehicles. These seat maximum passengers of 13 or 20 respectively.

The Operator offers a central city hotel or backpacker hostel pick-up on all tours. They have a defined hotel pick-up list. If your hotel or accommodation is not listed, then they will pick you up from the nearest hotel from the listing or a general pick-up location. They do not offer a pick-up from residential addresses or Airbnb accommodations. You can select your pick-up location when booking.

You will need good fitness and mobility to enjoy these walks. The walks will be fully guided by your expert Tour Guides on clearly marked and well-graded tracks with an interpretation emphasis on the natural environment and your surroundings.

A small number of optional extended walks are available on some tours. They will best determine the conditions on the day and the appropriateness of the walk to the guest’s fitness level and hiking experience.

The weather in Tasmania is famously varied, with four distinct seasons (sometimes all occurring in one day!).

The east coast is the island's dry, sunny, warm side. Annual rainfall in the east is 600mm – less than half the annual rainfall in Sydney. Daily maximum temperatures in summer (December to February) are between +20 to +30 degrees celsius. In winter (June to August), daily maximums are between +12 to +18 degrees celsius.
