What to Expect
Kaikoura is where the mountains meet the sea. It's a picture-perfect coastal town caught between the rugged Seaward Kaikoura Range and the Pacific Ocean. In winter, the snow-covered mountains only add to the already spectacular scenery.
Why not experience Kaikoura for yourself and with friends? Hop on and be driven in comfort in a modern, comfortable minibus packed with extras, led by a knowledgeable and passionate tour guide.
Leave Christchurch and head north towards Kaikoura. Your knowledgeable driver will point out Christchurch's gems and top highlights on the way.
Once you leave the city, pass through beautiful lush green countryside, wineries, and farms, and depending on what time of year, the lush green pastures might make way for beautifully snowy scenes.
Arrive in Cheviot for morning tea and a stretch of the legs. After you have refuelled, get back on the road to Kaikoura.
Pass through the beautiful Hundalee hills, and once you reach the summit, the Pacific Ocean greets you as you travel back down and approach Kaikoura. Weave through the stunning coastal road, which has to be the most scenic road in New Zealand. Make sure you keep an eye out for surfers and local wildlife – you may even spot a few seals!
Once you arrive in Kaikoura, the day is yours. You can explore the township, visit some of the local shops, or take a coastal walk. Alternatively, why not meet the locals with Whale Watch Kaikoura or even swim with the dolphins (additional expense)? The choices are endless!
Lunch, of course, is included with a country favourite – fish and chips.
In the afternoon, it's time to start the journey back home. However, before you make it all the way to Christchurch, stop at Waipara, one of New Zealand's premier wine regions. Here, you'll visit a locally owned and operated vineyard to taste a selection of wine. Don't worry if wine isn't your thing – you can substitute wine for beer instead.
This tour departs from the meeting point at Christchurch Bus Interchange, Corner of Lichfield & Colombo streets, Christchurch.
