Te Anau

The charming town of Te Anau is known as the 'Gateway to Fiordland'. It is nestled at the border of Lake Te Anau which is the second largest lake in New Zealand with a dramatic backdrop of Mt Luxmore and the Murchison mountains.

Te Anau is the closest town to Milford Sound and is home to the Fiordland National Park.

Fiordland is regarded as the walking capital of the world. It is home to three of New Zealand's Great walks the Milford Track, the Kepler Track and the Routeburn Track. The Milford Track leads you to pristine lakes, enormous valleys and New Zealand's tallest waterfall.

The Kepler Track shows off all the best features of Fiordland mountains, forests, waterfalls and glacier-covered valleys.

There are plenty of local restaurants and allows tourists to relish the delicious local food like venison, lobster and seafood.

Autumn lasts from November to March; it is mild and sunny with clear blue skies and is the best time to visit the place.

You can take a cruise from Te Anau and visit Milford Sound, New Zealand's most popular tourist attraction. Or take the bus from Te Anau to Milford Sound with Jucy that takes you around the Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. Seize the stunning beauty of Fiordland and get a glimpse of mountains rising from the waters, majestic waterfalls, dense rainforests and glacier-carved hills.

Jet boat down the Waiau River where you'll encounter spectacular scenery and a famous movie set featured in the Lord of the Rings. Next, zoom onto Lake Manapouri and take in views of the breathtaking snow carved mountains and snow-capped peaks. You will get a chance to step into the wilderness and learn about the unusual flora and fauna, Maori culture and the early European settlements. This trip is full of splashes, spins and fun.

In an exciting blend of sea and air, jet boat across Waiau River and Lake Manapouri and fly over the shores of Lake Te Anau with a landing on Jackson's peak which gives you an outlook of the Fiordland national park.

Do not miss out on the Te Anau glowworm caves. Get up close to the glowworms which light up the silent darkness of the enchanting caves. You will also get to discover the tricky limestone pathways that were formed by a river that once passed the cave. Pass through whirlpools and roaring underground waterfalls as you go through the caves. These worms produce a glittering display that is nothing short of exceptional.
