<p>No, due to safety reasons, tourists are not permitted to travel up the glacier unless they join a heli hike or a guided ice walk. These tours are led by expert guides who will ensure you are properly equipped to hike the glacier safely. While several free walks around the glacier provide mesmerising views from afar, guided tours are the only way to explore its fascinating ice caves and snowy surface.&nbsp;</p>

<p>We recommend spending at least 2-3 days in Franz Josef. This will give you plenty of time to fully enjoy the various activities and enchanting sights around the area.</p>
