Ayers Rock - Things to Do
Ayers Rock or Uluru is a massive sandstone formation, right in the heart of Australia. This natural monument is a holy place for the indigenous Aboriginal people, and it is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. This highly spiritual symbol is located within Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, a protected area that measures more than 1300 square kilometres.
Together with Uluru, the rock formations of Kata Tjuṯa are the eye-catchers of this national park. These towering rocks are of great spiritual importance as well, and you simply can’t visit the national park without seeing this impressive range 25 kilometres west of Uluru.
The sun and temperatures here are harsh in winter, while from May to September the temperatures rarely exceed 30 degrees. The best times to visit during the day are sunrise and sunset when the rock is illuminated with a stunning hue.
The beauty and mystery of Ayers Rock didn’t go by unnoticed, and now countless activities can be done around the foot of this monument. To soak up the entire area and get to know all the features of Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, you can join the spectacular 4 day Uluru and Kings Canyon tour from Uluru or the more hardcore Mulgas Rock to Rock camping tour that lasts for 4 days.
However, if you’re planning to travel to Uluru from Alice Springs or you have onward travel plans to Alice Springs, you might want to consider the 3-day version of this tour that starts from Alice Springs or the 3-day tour that departs in Uluru and terminates in Alice Springs.
There are breathtaking ways to see Ayers Rock and Australia’s Red Centre from unique perspectives. You can observe the vast deserts and the monument during a terrific Uluru skydive from a height of 12,000 feet, including a spine-chilling freefall for 30 seconds!
An awesome alternative for a skydive is a scenic flight by helicopter over Uluru and Kata Tjuta. During this 30-minute ride, you get epic birds-eye views of this sacred rock and its surroundings.
Ayers Rock is one of Australia’s most significant landmarks and a must-visit in Northern Territory!
